Do you want to build a website for your brand and need to know what it would cost you? Check this out. Whether you’re building for a new brand/business or doing a revamp, code or no-code, startup or existing business, evaluating the cost to build a website is one of the first steps to take in your journey towards owning a website.

In this article, We will outline everything you need for a website and what it will cost if you want your website to be of good standard. You can only have the patience to go through all the processes if it is important to you, so..

Let’s jump in!

1.     A Domain Name:

If you must own a website, you need a domain name. It is the first step in our digital journey as it is like acquiring a landed property before starting a building project. Some standard domain extensions you can opt for are .net, .com, or .org. There are universal TLD (Top Level Domains) like .com and .org, these are usually used for business and/or non profit work respectively.  These cost anywhere between $10 and $30. There are other domain extensions with lower standards, these are usually cheaper. It is however recommended that you use mainly TLDs for your website project to boost its visibility on the internet.

2.     Web Hosting

This is the second stage of your website coming together; it acts as the storage of your website files and your website content itself. The cost of this depends on the type of web hosting you choose as they come in different types and prices. Cloud hosting is one of the most popular and efficient ways to handle traffic on the site; it costs about $30 to $250 per month. You also have the options to use either dedicated hosting or shared hosting. For small websites with limited traffic, shared hosting is recommended as it is cheaper and more efficient to start your web journey with. More complex projects could require the use of dedicated hosting servers. For Dedicated hosting you will pay around $90 to over $350 per month for it. Shared hosting costs about $5 to $15 per month. The last one to consider is VPS hosting, which costs around $30 to $100 monthly.

3.     Building and Developing the Website

Here, the cost differs, depending on the medium you plan to use. Using a DIY website building platform doesn't cost much, but you will keep paying monthly to keep the features of the site online. The price for this would be around $20 to $50 per month, depending on the platform you use and the features you choose. You can hire freelancers or agencies who specialize in the job, but it is more expensive than the DIY method. Here, you need about $500 to $5,000, depending on the standards you want.

If you want quality and a premium experience plus the functionality of maintenance of the website for a period of time then I recommend finding an excellent software agency within your budget and working with them.

4.     Getting CMS (Content Management Systems)

Some Web CMS have paid versions and others like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, and a few more are free. You, however, will pay certain fees for premium features like themes and plugins on the platforms. The price ranges from $20 to $100, depending on your preference.

5.     Digital Marketing and SEO

If you need to drive standard traffic to your website, SEO and digital marketing tools are essentials you need to add. Digital marketing tools for your website cost about $50 to $300 monthly. Meanwhile, SEO tools could cost from $0 to $1,000 per month depending on the level of functionality you need.

There are a few other minor expenses you might incur in the process of building a website. Some of them depend on the kind of website you are building and others might be on maintenance and updates you would make after the site is ready. In all, look at this guide and choose the best plan that would fit your ideas and your budget.
